Where has Crotone been all season? That’s the questions fans and neutrals alike surely must be asking watching the sudden revival of the Serie A debutants.

The Squali, up until March 19th had won just three games all term and as such, were looking set for relegation. Meanwhile, Empoli, who had won just one game in 2017, were cruising along, despite losing a whopping seven in a row. However, during that time frame, Crotone’s three wins included a 4-1 drubbing of Empoli, and despite all of that, the Azzurri were still sitting pretty comfortably in 17th spot.

Seemingly out of nowhere, Davide Nicola’s side began to claw their way back. They lost 1-0 to Fiorentina, but pushed the Viola all the way to the end, and the revival started with a 2-1 win over Chievo, which marked their first ever away win in the top flight. Impressively, they followed that up with arguably one of the biggest shocks of the season by beating Inter 2-1 at the Stadio Ezio Scida, which was the first time they’ve won two on the trot. A 1-1 draw with Torino followed, and they now come into this game having earned another 2-1 victory, this time against Sampdoria.

Meanwhile, as Crotone have suddenly experienced an uptick in form, the Rossoneri ended dropping points against Empoli. They have yet to win a game since their new Chinese owners took over, after securing a 2-2 draw with Inter. Vincenzo Montella’s side are now in danger of totally missing out on European football, something that will be unthinkable as they have failed to grace either the Champions or Europa League for the past few seasons.

Inter and Fiorentina are battling them for that coveted final Europa League spot to join Lazio and Atalanta in Europe next season. Despite the wide gap between the two sides, Crotone will be fancying their chances after seeing how Milan managed to concede twice against an Empoli side who have the weakest attack in the division. Still, Milan have netted in their past eight away games and will exploit Crotone’s weak defense, which has seen them concede in all but one of their games this term.
