The two European powerhouses Bayern Munich and Real Madrid renew their rivalry are they lock horns for the first leg of the Champions League 2017 quarter finals on Wednesday, 12th of April 2017.

In their last meeting on 2013/14 semi-finals, Carlo Ancelotti was the Madrid manager. Bayern lost 4-0 at Allianz Arena on that occasion, receiving their heaviest European defeat on home soil. Real went on to clinch the title by defeating city rivals Atletico Madrid in extra time.

These two had met for a total of 22 times in European competitions, 20 of those coming in 10 double legged knockout ties. And the teams knocked out each other out of 5 occasions each.

Bayern’s last defeat in a Champions League fixture came by the hands of Real’s city rivals Atletico Madrid in the group phase of the current campaign. For the Los Blancos, it was against a Bundesliga side in Germany, at Wolfsburg in the quarter finals last season.
